Brand History
Founded in 1996 in Santiago, Dominican Republic, La Flor Dominicana (LFD) has established its legacy through an unwavering dedication to agricultural excellence and consistency. Over the decades, Litto Gomez and his son Antonio have harnessed the specific terroir of their La Canela farm to cultivate aggressive, nutrient-dense tobaccos. This vertical integration allows their seasoned cigar roller teams to consistently produce bold configurations, maintaining a pristine environment from the curing barns straight to the aging room.
When evaluating the general flavor profile and strength, LFD is undeniably recognized for its full-bodied intensity. The factory pioneered the extensive use of heavily fermented ligero tobacco, packing their blends with a potent, spicy kick that veteran smokers respect. While they do offer a few mild-to-medium options incorporating a lighter seco leaf or a silky Connecticut wrapper, their dominant signature remains dark, heavy, and nicotine-rich. Expect profound tasting notes of black pepper, roasted espresso, leather, and dark chocolate in almost every major line they produce.
A fascinating fun fact about this factory is that Litto Gomez actually invented and patented his own vitola. The iconic “Chisel” shape features a flattened, wedge-like head that resembles a hand tool. This unusual cap design concentrates the smoke on the palate to intensify the tasting notes, and it remains one of the few cigar shapes in history to hold a U.S. patent.
