Corona Gorda Cigars

Corona Gorda translates to “fat” Coronas in Spanish - these cigars have a size of 5 ⅝ inches x 46 ring gauge. This is the mid-size format for Cuban cigars, and it suits all blends and powers. How are they different from the numerous cigar sizes? These cigars are Coronas rolled up with an extra amount of tobacco to meet the growing market demand for larger cigar rings. In addition to the increased width, you might get an extra half-inch in length. Some brands also refer to them as “toro” cigars. This extra space provides an opportunity to deliver more smoke with each puff for a wholesome experience.

The extra room is also a chance for the master blender to experiment with the blend. Combinations that are not possible in the narrower Coronas can be implemented. For example, an extra lead of Ligero—tobacco closer to the top of the tree can be used to beef up the flavor profile. A Corona Gorda lasts about 45 minutes to 1 hour. This depends on your smoking pace. If you are always left wanting more after a Corona, perhaps it is time to try out the fatter siblings. Ashton Virgin Sun Grown (VSG) Corona Gorda, Ashton Heritage Puro Sol Corona Gorda, and La Galera 1936 Box Pressed Pegador Corona Gorda are some of the premium hand-rolled cigars offered in this size.
