La Flor Dominicana (LFD) Salomon Unico Review
By Francina AlvarezLitto Gomez, the owner of LFD, said he told his cigar roller, “Just have fun. It has to be unique and artistic, and it has to be good tobacco.” Guess the product of that simple instruction? It’s the La Flor Dominicana Salomon Unico; the roller heeded and made stunning and unique cigars. They are simply a work of art. Let’s review the La Flor Dominicana (LFD) Salomon Unico cigar!
Features
- Country of origin: Dominican Republic
- Wrapper: Assorted
- Binder: Dominican
- Filler: Dominican
- Strength: Assorted
- Size: 7×64 vitola
- Shape: Perfecto
Each LFD Unico is seven inches long and has a 64-ring gauge at its thickest. Tapered at both heads, the cigars have a bulb towards the bottom. The cigars are filled with Dominican fillers and binders. The perfecto-shaped cigars are all rolled by a single person but differ in designs and wrappers used. The cigar maker uses a mix of wrappers – Candela, Maduro, and Connecticut tobacco – to make sets of unique patterns. Each cigar has different patterns and images – some with a skull, seahorse, flames, barber poles, crescents, etc. No two boxes nor cigars are alike.
La Flor Dominicana (LFD) Salomon Unico Review
I am thrilled to be doing the LFD Salomon Unico review today – this cigar has been in my humidor for over two years. Every time I intend to smoke it, I stop myself because I preserve them for a special occasion. Their mere presence in my humidor soothes my eyes. But every cigar has to be smoked.
I picked a Salomon Unico from my humidor. My hands fell on a seahorse-patterned one with a Connecticut wrapper. I was getting ready for notes of cream since Connecticut seeds are reputable for that. The cigar looked perfect and stunning- the Connecticut broadleaf was stripped in twos on each end. The wrapper was glossy and thin-veined.
My single-blade guillotine cutter did the honor of precisely cutting the head. The cold draw was creamy buttery – exactly what I’d expected from the Connecticut leaf. Toasting the stogie, there was a salted butter creaminess with the first few puffs.
The first third went by quickly, but the note hasn’t transitioned. The flavor was medium-full, while the strength was mild-medium. While sipping my cappuccino, the second third also slipped in, the notes hadn’t changed, but some baked spice and pepper were joining the party.
More than half of the cigar has burned, I must say the ash didn’t form well, but so far, I love the taste. The final third was still dominated by the salty buttery creamy taste with some sweetness, bready, and cedar notes.
The LFD Salomon Unico cigars are limited edition with striking patterns, designs, and impeccable construction. In addition, they offer varying wrappers and taste profiles. You would never know what to expect – isn’t that what art is?
