La Flor Dominicana (LFD) Chapter 1 (One) Cigar Review

By Connor
La Flor Dominicana (LFD) Chapter 1 (One) Cigar Review

There is always a first time for everything, and cigar rolling isn’t left out. La Flor Dominicana Chapter 1 is Antonio Gomez’s “first time.” This uniquely shaped cigar is the first to be blended by the son of the legendary cigar maker, Litto Gomez. La Flor Dominicana (LFD) Chapter 1 (One) was the beginning of many great cigar blends put together by Antonio – read the review of this Chisel!

Apart from being the beginning of great things for Antonio, Chapter 1 was a new dawn for the company. It comes in a wedge-shaped chisel head – the first and only cigar shape that has ever been patented in the cigar industry.

La Flor Dominicana (LFD) Chapter 1 (One) Chisel Cigar Review

What struck me first was the box; the coolness, hue, and simplicity. As I opened the box, I was greeted by hefty-looking sticks. The chisel cigar is really pretty. Dark, oily, and toothy, with tiny veins running through its body. The body is laced with cream and brown bands complementing the coffee bean-colored wrapper.

The wrapper had notes of molasses and chocolates with hints of pepper. The opening revealed notes of coffee, almond, hay, chocolate, and florals. I could still feel subtle hints of pepper.

Strength: Full
Country: Dominican Republic
Wrapper: Brazilian Double Ligero Maduro

First Third

I lit up the stogie, and immediately, I was welcomed by hints of spices, molasses, spices, and earth. Earth and clay showed up a few puffs into the devouring and, at some points, overshadowed the other flavor. The retrohale was spicy and peppery.

Second Third

The transition wasn’t so much. Molasses, pepper, and floral notes still dominated. At this point, the cigar’s full strength was becoming evident, and the room was filled with its flavors.

Final Third

The draw has been superb so far, and the ash formed nicely. The full glory of the Oscuro wrapper was laid down here, and the air was thickened with flavors of different notes. Spice and pepper dominated- something I have always appreciated with LFD cigars. Notes of earth, molasses, herbs, and some sweetness gave life to my palate. On retrohale, there were rich notes of fruits, spices, pepper, and molasses.

Just a stump left, but the peppery, spicy, and earthy notes survived. My almost 2 hours of smoking time came to a halt, but I could tell that was the best 2 hours of my week.
