La Flor Dominicana (LFD) Double Claro No 48 Review

By Francina Alvarez
La Flor Dominicana (LFD) Double Claro No 48 Review

The La Flor Dominicana Double Claro No. 48 is a cigar with a blend based on the original LFD Double Claro blend introduced in 1996. The cigar was initially released as part of LFD’s Limited Edition Collection and has been seen as one of its most successful blends, selling over 1 million units since its release. Let’s review La Flor Dominicana Double Claro No 48!

La Flor Dominicana (LFD) Double Claro No 48 Review

The size of this cigar is 6 1/2″ x 48 Churchill. This means that it’s a large ring gauge and length. You can get this cigar in boxes of 25 or packs of 20, and a box of 25 is sold at $200.25 at Cigar Country. The wrapper is an Ecuador Candela and like all good wrappers, it is smooth and easy on the hands. The Candela gives the cigar a unique green color. The binder used in this cigar is Nicaraguan, grown in the western part of Nicaragua, which is known for its fertile soil with a lot of sunlight. The filler is a blend of Dominican tobacco. This means that there’s a strong presence of woody notes and earthiness and spice on the first puff—similar to what you’d expect from an aged Connecticut shade wrapper leaf. When appropriately lit, these flavors become even more noticeable: they’re smooth yet richly complex at once.

The cigar was master blended by Litto and Antonio Gomez, both well-known members of the Dominican tobacco industry. They collaborated to blend this cigar with a light wrapper, a light binder, and a lighter filler. The result is a highly mild smoke that won’t overwhelm your palate. The double cap is well applied, keeping all air holes intact except for a tiny gap near where it connects to its headpiece. The wrapper smells sweet and nutty with notes of coffee and spices on the cold draw. The original LFD Double Claro cigars were introduced in 1996 and were the first cigar-style returns from La Flor Dominicana. They were a lighter version of their original line, with a thinner wrapper and a slightly smaller ring gauge. They were produced until 2001, when they were replaced by the current version.

The LFD Double Claro No 48 is a good smoke. It has more flavor than many other short fillers and would make an excellent everyday smoke if you’re looking for something light. The construction is exemplary, the burn line is even and consistent, and the draw is consistent throughout. It’s not a complex smoke, but it has enough flavor to be enjoyable each time you light up one of these beauties. The first few draws are slightly harsh, but after that, it settles into an excellent creamy smoothness that gets better with every puff. Shop now at Cigar Country!
