Davidoff 702 Series Review & Price Range

By Mariana Heredia
Davidoff 702 Series Review & Price Range

Over the last few years, Davidoff has been quite active. They first renamed the Core lines, reducing the number of sub-lines to Signature, Grand Cru, and Aniversario (from Classic, Aniversario previously, Special, and Mille, Grand Cru). Then they launched a brand-new line named after a limited-edition release from a few years ago: 702 Series. Read this review of the Davidoff 702 Series blend and price range before committing to purchasing a box!

The 702 lines are claimed to use the same filler and binder as the other “White Label” releases, which is pure Dominican leaf. The “702” Ecuadorian Habano hybrid wrapper leaf is the actual story here.

Davidoff 702 Series Review

  • Vitola: Aniversario No. 3 (Toro)
  • 6” x 50 ring gauge
  • MSRP $26.90

Prelight

The packing and banding are just what you’d expect from Davidoff…elegant, polished, and nearly flawless. A supplementary band with extra white and gold marking the size and “702 Series” joins the ordinary White Label here. The boxes are plain wood cabinet-style boxes that look lovely on display but aren’t so nice that you don’t want to discard them in favor of the trays that most Davidoff-appointed shops now have (for example, the “Year of the Rooster” box…so it’s nice, you want to leave it out for show).

Flavor

When we lit up the 702, We got a lot of grassy, sweet hay notes, as well as a hint of cedar and red pepper. At first, the mushroomy Olor tobacco flavors were only a faint background note. Retrohaling the smoke revealed more musty flavors, as well as a greater cedar presence and sharper pepper. There was some citrus and a considerable amount of sweetness in the blend as we proceeded through the first third.

Overlapping the mustiness and wood aromas, the latter third had more of that citrus zing, combined with pepper. A solid earthy core profile lay beneath it all.

Price Range

With a cigar that costs nearly $30, determining value is challenging. If you’re willing to pay that much for a regular Davidoff or Millennium Blend, you’ll find this to be well worth it.

If you prefer Davidoff’s ordinary White Label line but want something with a little more body and character, the 702 Series is for you. It has a medium-to-full body with a nice bit of pepper from the Ecuadorian wrapper. The Dominican fillers and hybrid Habano wrapper combine to give an enticing sweetness that complements the wood and soil aromas throughout. If you enjoyed the Davidoff 702 Series review, you’ll probably enjoy smoking the blend!
