Ashton VSG Cigars Review, Sizes, & Price Range
By Francina AlvarezDebuted in 1999, the Ashton Virgin Sun Grown (VSG) cigar is a long-standing favorite among connoisseurs – let’s review the blend, sizes, and price range. Blended in the Fuente estate by the legendary Carlos Fuente Jr, it was a cultural shift from the mild strength of previous Ashtons. For more than two decades, this line has kept a strong and faithful following with high ratings – Ashton VSG is no exception. The secret to this dominance is a trio of immaculate craftsmanship, a full-bodied blend of flavors, and carefully selected aged tobacco.
It contains carefully selected and well-aged Dominican fillers and binders, paired with an exquisite Sumatra-seed Ecuadorian sun-grown wrapper from the best trimmings. The product of this is an embodiment of full-bodied flavor and richness.

Ashton VSG Cigar Review
Immediately after picking it up from the humidor, I was greeted by its luscious oily chocolate wrapper. Adorned with the recognizable band of Ashton, gold, red, and black on a creamy background. The construction is sturdy all through the length with no area of softness, a testament to the craft. A cold draw reveals the aromas of coffee beans, ceded, and leather.
The first draw confirms that the hype surrounding the VSG is well-earned. The rich flavor of ground coffee and leather marked my first few draws. There was a lingering sweet taste in the background. The retro-hale accentuates the milky aromas. This dance of flavors on my palate persisted throughout the first third of the cigar.
The burn was even, and the ash held until I was ready to discard it, a nudge to the integrity of the VSG. As I got past the middle, the notes transformed into elements of raisins, ceded, and nutmeg. The cigar ends with an earthy tone and hints of spices but not too strong or bitter.
Upon review, the Ashton VSG cigar offers a rich experience. Its rich coffee, spicy, and hearty flavors stimulate your palate. It pairs perfectly with a bottle of scotch or any of your favorite spirits. A true testament to the brilliance of the Fuente family. So, next time you want a premium cigar to celebrate an important moment, reach for the VSG.
