Ashton ESG Cigar Review and Price Range
By Mariana HerediaThe Fuente family master blender Carlito Fuente Jr is considered a cigar legend. Whatever he lays his hands on, he turns it into perfection. Some even go as far as to say that he has the Midas touch. Ashton Estate Sun Grown (ESG) cigar series is just one of the numerous examples. Read this review of the blend and price range before committing to buying a whole box of Ashton ESG cigars!
Ashton ESG cigars are puro Dominican cigars. The binders, fillers, and wrappers come from the Fuente family’s prized Chateau de la Fuente field. Their oily, shiny, and brownish wrappers come from a rare Cuban tobacco seed varietal that is sun-grown. This is unique as growing wrappers in the DR is an uncommon phenomenon.
Ashton ESG is nicknamed “the Velvet Hammer” due to its sneaky strength profile. They have a mellow start but become more intense as you smoke. They have a complex nutty and creamy taste profile, all thanks to their Dominican wrappers.
Ashton ESG Cigar series was originally debuted to commemorate the brand’s 20-year anniversary in 2005, with the 20-Year Salute being the first. After this, four more Salutes were released.

Ashton ESG Price Range
Ashton ESG cigars are somewhat pricey, they cost more than your regular cigars, but the loads of unique experiences that await you are worth the price. Each stick costs about $20 on average, and their beautiful box of 25 costs about $500.
For today’s review, I have chosen the most appealing of the 5-series to me, the 22-Year Salute.
Ashton ESG Review
Picking a stick from my humidor, I realized how beautifully constructed this stick was. The shiny caramel-hued wrapper has an even appearance with a gloss of oil-packed within its tooth pockets. A couple of vague veins conceal the actual heartiness of the wrapper, making it seem frail, as opposed to the actual strength it bestows. The gold, white, blue, and black color of the band with its minimal floral patterns adds to its aesthetics.
The Torpedo-shaped cigar is 6 by 52 sized. My palate was welcomed with notes of almonds, coffee, and hints of spices as I sniffed in its unlit foot. I cut open its foot, slowly drawing in the flavors. The cold draw consists of notes of cashew, graham crackers, and a tinge of black pepper.
Upon lighting up, the initial puff was filled with creamy rich notes of almonds, chestnuts, and cashew. As I slowly get immersed in its flavors, the cigar gradually unfolds its tasty concentrations. Its retrohale was filled with spices as they found their way around my nostrils. As I approached the middle third, notes of butter, brown sugar, and graham crackers linger on my palate.
The last third of my smoking experience came with a hush of cedar, spices, and molasses rounding off my less than an hour’s good time.
