Dominican Wrapper Cigars

Looking for Dominican wrapper cigars? Despite the DR being a Mecca for premium cigars, it is often considered impossible to plant wrappers in the Dominican Republic. Many cigar makers have tried without success. Carlito Fuente debuted the Opus X in 1995, spotting a Dominican wrapper. This feat made him the first cigar maker to grow a wrapper in the DR successfully. Since then, Davidoff’s Hendrik Kelner, La Flor Dominicana’s Litto Gomez, and Edgar Cullman Jr. of General Cigar have followed suit. But none of these was as impressive or successful as the wrappers grown at the Chateau de la Fuente estate. Blended from wrapper leaves grown under the shade of the Chateau de la Fuente estates, the Fuente Fuente Opus X is a DR puro. It features predominantly Ligero tobaccos, which gives it a potent strength profile. The flavor notes include an amalgamation of cedar, nougat, and coffee beans.

Another Dominican wrapper cigar and puro blended in the Fuente family factory, the Ashton ESG (Estate Sun Grown), is a classic. It has creamy notes of cedar, graham cracker, cocoa, black pepper, and molasses. Unlike the Opus X, the wrapper is sun-grown. This rare wrapper is then combined with reserves of Dominican long-fillers and binders. The Yamasa region has also shown some promise as a region for growing premium wrappers. Named after this region, the Davidoff Yamasa is a medium to full-bodied cigar that gained its flavorful kick from the reddish clay. The wrapper is blended with tobacco from Nicaragua to culminate in a robust smoke.
