Panatela Cigars
A Panatela, or Panetela, cigar is a thin, long, and elegant cigar. The length ranges from between 5 to 7 1/2 inches. A Panatela has a ring gauge that ranges from 34 to 38. Extra-long Panatelas are referred to as gran Panatelas. These cigars resemble other Cuban cigars on the market; they have the classic straight cylindrical Parejo style. Thus, they are often confused with Lanceros — another group of long, slender Cuban cigars with approximate dimensions. All Lanceros are Panatela cigars, but only the extra-long Panatelas (Gran Panatelas) are Lancero cigars.
The wrapper leaf plays a more central role in the flavors of a Panatela cigar. Most of the flavors come from the wrapper instead of coming from the binder and filler tobaccos used. Therefore, if you want a swamp of notes from oily and rich wrappers like the Habanos and Cameroon wrappers, it could be time to try out a Panatela. Also, this size and shape are perfect for cigar smokers who prefer a longer burn time. Depending on the length, a Panatela will give you about 2 hours of the smoking experience and an evening-long relaxation while you watch the NBA finals. However, some cigar enthusiasts root for the wider ring gauge. They believe these cigars provide a better draw and a quicker, more satisfying smoke.
