Gran Corona Cigars

Gran Corona cigars are the bigger version of corona-size cigars. They have a length of 9 ¼ inches and varying girth, but usually around 47 ring gauge. Depending on the brand, some could be shorter while others could be as long as 10 inches. These fat cigars are also known as Presidentes or large cigars. They are longer than Double Coronas with more than an inch difference in length but are considerably thinner than them. They lack the thickness peculiar to Gordo cigars. They are Parejos (straight-sided) with rounded heads.

Like other big cigars, the binder and filler determine most of the flavor profile. The flavor of the wrapper is greatly diluted with the core tobaccos. These cigars have a long burn time, providing for a long relaxing smoke session. Gran Corona-size cigars are not so common, especially amongst the new cigar smokers. They are mostly purchased with the intent of journeying on a very long smoking session. They burn for hours like Double Coronas. If you have many hours at hand to patiently enjoy a cigar, a Presidente is recommended. They are good for all-day outdoor activities like fishing or a day at the golf course. Because they are rare and have low demand, only a few brands make them. Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Presidente Maduro Tubos and Oliva Serie G Maduro Presidente are some Gran Coronas available on the market.
