Who is Litto Gomez?

Who is Litto Gomez?

Litto Gomez, often regarded as one of the most innovative brains in the cigar industry, is the founder and CEO of the leading brand La Flor Dominicana. Although a former jeweler, you can find him these days on his farm experimenting with newer and more daring blends of a cigar.

Who is Litto Gomez?

Early life

He was born in Spain but raised in Uruguay. Growing up, Litto Gomez drew inspiration from Adelio, his laborer father. His dad has a vigorous work ethic but lost his arm in an industrial accident. This incident forced his father to reinvent his life. All these toughened up the character and intensity of Litto for the rest of his life.

In search of opportunities, Gomez, along with his older brother Jose, moved to Toronto, Canada. This was after being denied an American Visa. He has to take up menial jobs to get by. However, the cold winter was too tough, and the brothers moved southward to the warm climates of Florida. Here they found better success running two liquor stores and a pawn shop. After his success with jewelry, he turned his pawn shop into a full-blown jewelry store.

The incident that changed the course of his life

At the end of a working day at Perkin’s, the jewelry shop he owned on Miami’s North Beach, Gomez would experience an incident that would shake his resolve. Two men armed with a pistol came into the shop. Gomez was tied to his jeweler with duct tape, with their mouths both gagged.

The thieves carted away jewelry and cash in the region of $400,000 and were never caught. The robbery changed him. He sold the shop shortly after this and never re-opened.

He was dating Ines Lorenzo, now married, at the time of the robbery. The two combined their resources with a Miami real estate mogul to create a cigar brand named Los Libertadores in 1994. Lorenzo managed distribution and advertising while Gomez ran the factory.

Family ties

He is married to Ines Lorenzo-Gomez, with who he started his cigar company. The happy couple is blessed with two sons, Tony and Litto Gomez Jr. All members of the Litto Gomez family are in the family business. It is safe to say when the time is right and the 53 years older Gomez decides to retire. His sons will step in to take over the LFD name.

LFD 1994

LFD 1994 full-body cigars commemorate La Flor Dominicana’s 20th anniversary as a symbol of pride. The binder and filler tobaccos grew in the Dominican Republic in 1994 at the brand’s very own La Canela farm. Moreover, the Mexican San Andrés wrapper adds a sweet and savory flavor that will blow you away.
