La Flor Dominicana (LFD) TCFKA M Review

By Francina Alvarez
La Flor Dominicana (LFD) TCFKA M Review

TCFKA M is an acronym for The Cigar Formerly Known As Mysterio, a medium-bodied line of cigars by the LFD brand. These cigars are available in 3 distinct lines, the natural, oscuro, and collector’s edition. Blended by Litto and Antonio Gomez, the cigars offer a unique and sophisticated taste synonymous with the LFD name. TCFKA M features Dominican filler and binder tobacco in all three lines. Depending on your choice, your cigar could spot an Ecuador Sumatra Oscuro or Connecticut Shade wrapper. A new collector’s edition is released annually, and the master blenders use this avenue to experiment with different wrappers. Let’s review the La Flor Dominicana TCFKA M!

La Flor Dominicana (LFD) TCFKA M Review

  • Country of Origin: Dominican Republic
  • Wrappers: Ecuador Sumatra Oscuro or Connecticut Shade
  • Fillers: Dominican
  • Binder: Dominican
  • Size: 7 inches by 55 ring gauge
  • Strength: Medium

The Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper of this perfecto had a luscious sheen. It had a dark coffee bean color with a generous amount of oil. The cap had a tight spiral wind giving it a ball-like shape, and the foot was all Shade wrapped. The classic LFD gold, red, and black band adorn the body, giving it a nice contrast.

I opted for a straight cut, and the pre-light draw offered mostly woody and creamy notes. I proceeded to toast and light up my cigar. The first few draws continued with the cream and wood notes. The retrohale was dominated by sweet cedar spice. A few draws into the first one-third, notes of cedar and natural tobacco sweetness joined the party. For the rest of the first third, these two notes took center stage while the cream notes receded into the background.

By the second third, the cedar notes are now the dominant force, with the natural tobacco notes moving into the rearview. The creamy note is all but gone, with some grassy note emerging in the background.

The final third was accentuated with a sharp increase in spicy notes of black pepper. The pepper joined the cedar as the major notes, with all the grass, cream, and natural tobacco in the background. The smoke was not overbearing or bitter at any point during my session. I reached the nub around 1 hour 30 minutes after I lit it up. The ash held beautifully, and I didn’t need to retouch the light, a testament to the amazing craftsmanship of this line.

Final Impression

The TCFKA M is a solid and fun cigar to smoke. It ticks all the boxes of construction, flavor profile, and strength. The collector’s edition presents a new challenge every year. This is a cigar I recommend every aficionado needs to try out at least once.
