The bundle style of packaging cigars started in the early 1960s. They were used for packaging cigars with some manufacturing defects known as "manufacturer's seconds or value cigars." Each bundle contained cigars with nonuniform colors and appearances. They were used as means to cut down costs. However, today things have changed. Bundles are no longer a means to discard defective sticks for low prices. Many handmade premium stogies are solely packaged in bundles but are still relatively cheaper than boxed ones due to the removal of the cost of boxes.
