Atabey

Atabey Cigars is an ultra-premium brand from Selected Tobacco S.A., founded by Nelson Alfonso — the master blender behind the iconic Cohiba Behike branding. Named after the supreme goddess of the Taíno people, Atabey is produced at the Tabacos de Costa Rica factory in Puriscal, Costa Rica, in extremely limited annual quantities.

What sets Atabey apart is its aging process. After rolling, every cigar rests for a minimum of five years in rooms lined with five distinct cedar varieties — Cuban, Spanish, Lebanese, Brazilian, and Mexican — with humidity cycled throughout to allow the tobacco to fully absorb each wood's aromatic character. The result is a complexity that cannot be rushed.

The portfolio spans two lines: the core Atabey, a medium to medium-full expression with notes of cedar, cream, earth, and subtle spice, and Atabey Black — a darker, richer release aged additionally in French oak with notes of leather, dark fruit, and caramel.
