Davidoff Oro Blanco Special Reserve 111 Years: A Century of Craft in One Cigar

For those who live and breathe cigars, there’s always that one bucket list smoke — a cigar so rare, so refined, it borders on legendary. In 2014, Davidoff gave us that moment with the Oro Blanco Special Reserve 2002, an ultra-premium Dominican puro that redefined luxury in the cigar world. Fast-forward to today, and Davidoff has once again raised the stakes with an even rarer, even more aged successor: the Davidoff Oro Blanco Special Reserve 111 Years.

This is not your everyday cigar — and frankly, it’s not for everyday occasions either. This cigar is for those once-in-a-lifetime moments that deserve something extraordinary.

111 Years of Tobacco Aging

111 Years. That’s the combined age of the seven tobaccos used in this blend — each individually aged between 17 and 20 years. The result is a cigar with the oldest overall tobacco composition ever released by Davidoff. Aging tobacco this long isn’t just about patience — it’s about vision. Davidoff has spent decades investing in, preserving, and curating its vintage tobacco inventory to make a cigar like this possible.

Dominican Puro, Five Distinct Terroirs

The Oro Blanco Special Reserve 111 Years is a Dominican puro — meaning every leaf in the blend comes from the Dominican Republic. But within that label lies a world of flavor. The cigar features tobaccos from five carefully selected terroirs:

  • Bonao (2006): A small area called Los Quemados produces tobacco that’s sweet and salty, with distinct dried fruit notes. This tobacco has never been used in a Davidoff cigar and is no longer cultivated — making this cigar your only chance to try it.
  • Navarrete (2006): Known for its mineral-rich, rocky soil and organic matter. The tobacco delivers a sweet flavor with touches of bitterness, stimulating complex areas of the palate.
  • Mao (2007): Grown in the Mao River valley where limited sunlight and high humidity produce delicate, creamy tobacco with a mild, aromatic profile.
  • Piloto (2007): This terroir brings roasted coffee, wood, and a touch of bitterness. It’s bold but refined — a flavor base that gives this cigar its full body.
  • Yamasá (2007): A high-humidity zone that nurtures thick, oily leaves packed with creamy, peppery notes. This region is known for producing powerhouse tobacco with sophistication.

Together, these five terroirs create a beautifully layered cigar that evolves as you smoke it — shifting from creamy sweetness to richer, more earthy tones, and back again.

Made by Masters Only

Only the most experienced hands are allowed to roll the Oro Blanco Special Reserve 111 Years. That means Davidoff Master Roller supervisors with at least 20 years of experience. Each cigar is rolled using the “pegada directa” method, where the same wrapper leaf is used to finish the head of the cigar in a single, seamless motion. It’s one of the most difficult techniques in cigar rolling — and a detail that sets this toro apart.

Davidoff doesn’t rush these cigars to market either. They’re only released when the Master Blenders personally deem them ready, ensuring each cigar hits the exact flavor profile Davidoff intends.

Packaging Fit for Royalty

The presentation is just as exceptional as what’s inside. Each cigar comes adorned with dual Oro Blanco bands, redesigned to reflect the elevated nature of this new release. You can buy it as a single cigar in an elegant wooden box, or go all in on the 10-count collector’s box.

The 10-ct box itself is a work of art — sleek wood grain reminiscent of tobacco leaves, polished metal plaques, a hidden Oro Blanco logo under the tray, and a smooth push-and-click drawer system for presentation. A cedar insert protects the cigars.

Flavor Notes

Smoking time is approximately 70 to 90 minutes and it is medium-bodied in strength.

  • Caramel: At the start, notes of caramel and wood are present. The well-aged tobaccos deliver the flavours perfectly. Subtle citrus notes balance the sweetness and are complemented by a delicious creaminess.
  • Dried Fruits: In the second third, the cigar takes on a fruitier character, paired with flavours of leather and roasted nuts. This beautiful evolution is accompanied by the continuous creaminess throughout.
  • Dark Chocolate: In the toro’s finale, the lingering creaminess is paired with notes of dark chocolate, while the dried fruit flavours from earilier are still present. A Full-bodied, dynamic masterpiece of ever-changing aromas.

Pairing Recommendations

A cigar this refined deserves an equally special pairing. Consider a well-aged cognac, a top-shelf Armagnac, or even Da Hong Pao tea — a rare Chinese tea harvested from 350-year-old bushes. These pairings complement the Oro Blanco’s sweet, balanced profile without overpowering it.

The Davidoff Oro Blanco Special Reserve 111 Years is more than just a rare cigar — it’s a time capsule that’s for sale. A living memory of the land, the soil, and the hands that shaped it over decades. It’s a reminder that true luxury isn’t fast or flashy — it’s something that takes time, care, and a commitment to excellence.

This isn’t a cigar you light on a whim. It’s a cigar you save for the moment that truly deserves it — a wedding, a birth, a milestone, or a celebration of life’s biggest wins.
