Ashton Classic Esquire Cigars Review

By Mariana Heredia
Ashton Classic Esquire Cigars Review

Cigarillos are not a common feature on this side of the Atlantic. Unlike in Europe, where there is a huge market for them, we Americans prefer our cigars to be fat and long. However, there has been a certain yearning for smaller hand-rolled cigars by aficionados. Enter the Ashton Esquire, a completely hand-rolled cigar that contains natural tobacco leaves from one of the most renowned cigar brands. Read this review before committing to a whole tin or box of Ashton Esquire cigars!

The Ashton Esquire is a petit cigar that comes in a nicely packaged aluminum tin. Like the rest of the Ashton Classic line, it spots the golden brown Connecticut shade wrapper. The core is compactly filled with 3 to 5 years old Dominican binders and fillers.

Ashton Esquire Cigar Review

The attractive aluminum tin looked classy, with the Ashton brand imprint smack in the middle. Popping it open revealed the 10 cigars in their full glory.

I picked up one and rolled it around my thumb and index finger. The size difference was immediately evident. The light brown smooth Connecticut Shade leaf was prominent. The distinctive white, black, and gold band adds to the allure of the stick. This band blends well with the tiny dark veins I observed on a close look.

Pressure from the head to the foot shows no signs of soft spots. This is a huge kudos to the artisans. For a tiny cigar, a lot of attention was paid to the detailing. The cigar is perfectly triple-capped. A cold draw revealed flavors of almonds, coffee beans, cocoa, and cream.

I proceeded to light up my cigar. The draw was surprisingly decent. For a cigar so tightly packed, the draw was not too forced. The first couple of puffs revealed creamy notes of almond, coffee bean, and cocoa. Elements of cedary spices kept making an entrance as I approached the middle of the cigar. The retro-hale was smooth.

Fifteen minutes, and I was already halfway into the cigar. The ash held on, and the flavor remained consistent. There were some elements of leather and earth as I got closer to the end of the cigar.

I rolled off the band on my cigar for the home run. Notes of dark coffee and cedar are now more prominent. Bringing my 28 minutes of smoking to a beautiful climax.

Ashton Esquire is perfect if you are constantly on the go and would love a cigar to relax during breaks. The mellow flavor also makes it perfect to pair with your after-dinner dessert. It is relaxing and provides a consistent mellow flavor across the whole stick. Even if you are not a fan of petite cigars, you should give the Esquire a trial. You might end up reviewing your stance.
