Ashton Cabinet Cigar Review

By Francina Alvarez
Ashton Cabinet Cigar Review

In the 1980s, Robert Levin conceived the idea of an iconic cigar brand from his Philadelphia retail shop. He entrusted the building of his dream to the Fuente family in the Dominican Republic. Ashton is the brainchild of this union. They rose to be among the most revered premium cigar brands globally. Let’s review the Ashton Cabinet Cigar!

Nicknamed the “White Burgundy” of cigars, the Ashton Cabinet Cigar features long Dominican fillers and binders aged five to seven years. The Connecticut shade wrapper is aged for an extra year, giving it an attractive palomino appearance. This union results in a cigar with a smooth and creamy taste. The flavors are rich and creamy with an irresistible, vanilla-like sweetness, and the strength is mild to medium.

For this Ashton Cabinet Cigar review, I will be indulging myself in a 5 ½ inches by 50-ring gauge Ashton Cabinet Selection No 6. It features an attractive blond-brown Connecticut Shade wrapper. A few thin veins were on the wrapper, but the cap was tightly fitted. The cigar is tightly constructed with no soft spots. Notes of hay and nuts hit the air when picked from the humidor. A cold draw reveals nuts, hay, and cocoa.

Upon firing up the Ashton Cabinet, I was greeted by the flavors I picked on the cold draw. The first few draws were clean; each puff produced a creamy smooth smoke. Notes of cocoa, nuts, and hay graced my palate. There were hints of spice as I approached the end of the first third. The retrohale is mild, the same as the overall strength of the cigar.

The second half of the cigar reveals a lingering spice. They now appear bold and stay on the tongue in between draws. The creaminess and smoothness of the smoke persist with a bit of sweetness. The draw is even, and the burn is crisp. The well-formed, almost white ash holds well.

The cigar ends with all the flavors of nuts, cocoa, hay, coffee, and spice-holding. The sweetness gets more accentuated, and the overall flavor is blended—a sweet ending to a smooth ride.

The Cabinet Selection offers a rich and creamy smoke with amazing flavors. Although its strength profile is mild, it does provide an amazing selection of notes. It is the perfect cigar for those trying to break out of the mild strength category and roll into the medium range. The smooth taste pairs well with coffee, rum, and cognac; therefore, you should make the Ashton Cabinet the next addition to your collection.
