The Jocko Maduro wrapper is a dark, oily Ecuadorian Sumatra. This tobacco comes from the San Vicente region of Ecuador, where it is grown on farms owned by local farmers who have been developing this leaf for generations.

The Sumatra wrapper is a thicker wrapper used for cigars that are full-bodied and full-flavored like this one! It’s not easy to find since it doesn’t grow well in many parts of Central America, so it’s tough to come by if you don’t live close enough.

The Jocko Natural cigar is wrapped in a Connecticut-seed Habano 2000 wrapper from the Dominican Republic. It’s leafed by hand, resulting in a more complex and balanced flavor profile than many other machine-rolled cigars. The binder is made from Dominican Corojo tobacco aged for at least two years and has been aged longer than most other LFD cigars on your list.

The filler blend includes Dominican Criollo ’98 (long-filler) and Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 (short-filler), which are known to have earthy flavors that complement one another quite well. These two tobaccos also contribute some sweetness towards the end of your smoke when you’ve burned through most of each stick before it burns down entirely into ashtray material instead of ash or ember.

The LFD Reserva Especial El Jocko is a highly well-made cigar, as you would expect from such a high-quality company. It’s not quite as refined and smooth as some other Maduros, but it’s still delightful. The wrapper is dark brown with visible veins and a few minor blemishes; the foot has several small dots of tobacco. The pre-light draw was light on flavor, but full-on strength feels like this cigar would be capable of matching up with any other full-bodied smoke without any trouble at all.
